Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS 6-1/2-Quart Programmable specifications:

Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS 6-1/2-Quart Programmable Touch Screen Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel Price and Description:
Enjoy healthy, home cooked meals with a busy schedule thanks to this easy to use oval shaped slow cooker. A nice size when cooking for eight or nine people, the 6 1/2 quart unit can hold a 7 pound roast and works well for making soups, casseroles, stews, curries, and more. Simply add ingredients to the unit’s stoneware crock, put it in the cooker, set the glass cover in place, and program the cooking time from 30 minutes to 20 hours using the eLume touchscreen control panel. Its digital timer counts down the time left over, and the appliance automatically shifts to keep warm mode at the end of the cooking time. The digital timer also keeps track of time spent in keep warm mode, counting up in one minute increments for up to six hours. Considerately intended, the removable stoneware crock doubles as a serving dish and, with its cover, cleans up easily by hand or in the dishwasher. Other highlights include a polished stainless steel outside, a large loop cover handle, and stylish metal side handles with silicone stay cool wraps for safe transport. Not sure what to cook first? CrockPot throws in a bonus cookbook with a range of delicious recipe ideas. The beautiful and versatile slow cooker measures roughly 16 1/2 by 8 2/3 by 12 1/5 inches and carries a one year restricted warranty.

4.0 out of five stars I chose this over the All Clad Non Stick slow cooker, August 26, 2009
By Someone in Seattle (Seattle, WA) See all my reviews This review is from: Crock Pot SCVT650 PS 6 1/2 Quart Programmable Touch Screen Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen) I spent a year looking for a good slow cooker that (1) When set on low didn’t boil food too hot (2) Could hold enough for big batch cooking (3) didn’t have a hinged cover (hard to clean and breaks easily) (4) Is programmable for a set total of time, then switches to warm (5) Was reasonably priced. I tried cheapo store brand round slow cookers which nuked my food no have to explain since majority of people have had one at one point or another. Last fall I bought the top of the line All Clad slow cooker with non stick put from Williams Sonoma. After sales tax it cost me a little over $300 which made me nervous. The 1st meal I made in it has been braised short ribs. I browned the ribs in the slow cooker put on the stove and set it on low for some number of hours. The food was delish and it kept a light simmer but I has been horrified to find light scratch marks on the inside of the put as I washed the dishes. I used the All Clad for some number of days , then returned it because I could not bear the thought of having paid that much money for something that was not going to last. Besides, I felt a bit strange about simmering food for many hours in that non stick covering that may one day start coming off. I then decided to look for a conventional crock pot with a timer if I have to saute or brown I now do it in a cast iron pan the night before, deglaze, then dump all of the contents into a container that goes into the fridge if I’m going to begin the crock in the morning. When I get up I fill up the crock pot with the prepped food from the night before, hit the buttons, then leave for work. So far this ELume variant was great.

Pros: The low setting is really a low simmer. I have made Indian lentil/dahl curries, bbq pulled pork, baked beans, Chinese jook/congee, Beef stew, Chili verde, red chili, soups, stock, the list goes on. I usually program it to cook for ten hours on low and it works like a charm. Food is really slow cooked, and there aren’t hot spots, burned, stuck on food like last appliances I have owned. The polished stainless finish looks beautiful though not it doesn’t have as high of quality finish as the All Clad.

Cons: The programmable button/pad area may be improved the numbers are hard to read unless you’re looking at it directly at eye level, meaning you must bend down to see what you are pressing. Mine came with a burned out area on the keypad but I did not annoy returning it since it did not influence the function you may be able to still see that it is the “on” button, it just does not light up. The black keypad part feels a tad cheap and you may be able to nearly pry it off if you wanted to (esp. When it gets hot) because it is glued on (!) although sturdily hopefully this lasts for a while. The crock pot itself gets a bit hot when cooking but not excessively hot like ones I have had before.

Bottom Line: I paid about $75 for this as well as tax. Bought at Linens N Things with a coupon. I am giving this a four star ranking good quality for that price but I could pay no more. In comparison to my week of owning a $300 slow cooker, this is a bargain.

5.0 out of five stars , a slowcooker that deserves five stars, February 19, 2010
By Valerie A. Perley (Franklin, TN USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Crock Pot SCVT650 PS 6 1/2 Quart Programmable Touch Screen Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen) let us have a rundown of slowcookers I have owned over the last ten years:
The All Clad slowcooker was great; but, the computerized panel stopped working completely AFTER the warranty ran out. The Kitchen Aid slow cooker was way too hot, on the warm cycle. The Hamilton Beach Set n’ Forget Programmable slow cooker cooked everything great; but, it could randomly shut off or stay on cook, making it unreliable.

The new Crockpot SCVT650 is awesome. The touchpad is 21st Century. It is so easy to program that I am still astonished with it. It cooks great. Like most programmable slow cooker it goes from low or hot to warm once the meal is finished. You may be able to set the time as low as 30 minutes and as high as 20 hours. The stainless steel outside is something you may be able to proudly put on your countertop.

The hole in the cover is no big deal. It is function is to keep the handle in its correct place. To clean the hole, if it gets gunked up with food, you just use a phillips head screwdriver to take off the screw. That is it. Just be sure that you do not tighten it too much or you may break the glass cover. It is an easy procedure, for the mechanically challenged.

5.0 out of five stars Love My New Crockpot!, January 17, 2010
By Jessica P. Marlowe (Fairfield, CT) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Crock Pot SCVT650 PS 6 1/2 Quart Programmable Touch Screen Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen) My mother used to make slow cooker dinners for us back in the early 70s. They were terrible. I do not know if she had a beta model of the slow cooker, or that nobody had still figured out the science of cooking with crocks, but I was a bit traumatized by the dinners that did not taste like anything but all tasted the same (sorry mom!). 40 years afterward, I thought a Crockpot may help me prepare food for my family because chaos generally breaks out when dinner preparation starts (i.E. Client calls, etc). A friend of mine is an expert cook and she swears by her crock. I decided to give it a shot. I researched models, and decided that this big size, easy to program model was a good fit. I was right. The 1st dish I made was chili, the second full peppers, the 3rd was navy been, beef brisket, chicken & sausage gumbo, then I moved on to steel cut oatmeal, unstuffed cabbage, and am cooking up a sausage chicken dish as I write this. Each dish turned out better than the last. Here is the surprising thing: I NEVER COOK, ever. My husband does all the cooking. Nobody is more surprised than I’m that I’m cooking and the food is amazing. The unstuffed cabbage is a family specialty and the crockpot made the dish better than anybody has so far.
For non cooks, I totally recommend this Crockpot! If someone really knows how to cook, I only imagine that the flavor is better.
The controls easy to use. Cooks evenly. The size is perfect for our family (4 people) with lots of leftovers. Easy to clean. The best part is that I’m able to make a meal for my family before the unexpected craziness of the day starts. This Crockpot changed they way I think about slow cookers, and changed the way I think of myself as a cook.

4.0 out of five stars Love it!, September 11, 2010
By Jeff Shane (Washington, DC USA) See all my reviews This review is from: Cuisinart CHW 12 Coffee Plus 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System, Black/Stainless (Kitchen) Since we do not typically need a full pot of coffee except on weekends I usually just grab a Starbucks “Via” instant coffee on the way to work in the morning (a pretty extraordinary novelty, by the way) I has been attracted to the hot water dispenser on this coffee maker. I like it especially because of its 58 ounce capacity meaning that you do not have to keep refilling it if you are just using it once each morning to fill a car mug. My wife prefers tea to coffee, and she loves getting a cup of really hot water whenever she likes. (We fill it with spring water, and the results are superb.) I have not had any problem with the “add water” light, as another reviewer seemingly did. I was worried about squandering energy by keeping a reservoir of water constantly hot, but it does not. It keeps only about 13 ounces of water at serving temperature; the rest of the reservoir is unheated. It does not take all that much energy to keep 13 ounces of water hot. And if you know you will not be wanting hot water for a while, you may be able to just turn it off with the on/off button. I had projected it to heat water instantly through many kind of coil system much like an under sink unit does but not so. Consequently, if the unit has not been on, there is about a 3 minute wait for the water to reach the right temperature. I gave it four stars instead of five because I wish the hot water dispenser were programmable in the way the coffee maker is, but it is not. You must start it manually. (No you can not use an outlet timer because the unit has an electronic on/off switch.) I also wish the hot water dispenser had a temperature modification (the coffee maker does); the water it dispenses is so hot that I have to wait for some number of minutes before I can drink any beverage I make with it. , many Cuisinart coffee makers have a strength modification but this does not. But they are minor quibbles; it is still a great appliance. The coffee maker itself works also as an auto drip coffee maker can generally a function of trial and error at the beginning (what kind and how much coffee you use). It uses a cone filter (#4) which in my humble opinion generally delivers better coffee than the flat filters used in so many other coffee makers as well as many of Cuisinart models and the water is covered onto the coffee by a showerhead array in the reservoir cover. (Tip for review “Me2″: Pour water into the coffee maker by putting the lip of the carafe on the rear LEFT corner and pour it in that way. It is many easier and you will not spill any.)

5.0 out of five stars A dream come true!, September 25, 2010
By Robin Lyn See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Cuisinart CHW 12 Coffee Plus 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System, Black/Stainless (Kitchen) My last old Cuisinart bit the dust so I was in the market for a new one. I had also been in the market for a water kettle but really didn’t like the idea of having another appliance on my counter top. When I checked out the Cuisinart website to see what was new I was blown away by the idea of this coffee maker that also dispensed hot water!! I was so excited about it I had it sent overnight.

I have only had it for a day but oh what a great cup of coffee I had this morning and now I’m loving the convenience of having hot water available for my tea drinking!

Pros: Everything!! In perfect working order and I was able to follow the manufacture’s information on hot water without any problems at all! Best cup of coffee I have had counting my old Cuisinart!

Cons: Only one negative so far. It’s uncomfortable pouring water into the coffee maker side and I guess I’ll need more practice at this to keep from splashing water all over everything.

So far very happy with my purchase!!

5.0 out of five stars better than I projected., July 2, 2011
By frankfromnj See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE) () This review is from: Cuisinart CHW 12 Coffee Plus 12 Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System, Black/Stainless (Kitchen) I looked at many of different coffee makers before deciding on this model. Purchasing a coffee maker must be one of the hardest things to purchase. The problems come in because everyone has a different take on what coffee is supposed to taste like and unfortunately many of them are dead wrong. The most vital thing for anybody that really enjoys coffee the way it’s supposed to be made is that the water heats up to a enough temperature (greater than 190 degrees). This lets for the best flavor to be extracted from the coffee ground without that bitter taste that you get when the temperature is too low. Since majority of people do not know that you do not find that info in most reviews. I found that info in the good reviews for this product and it had an in general ranking of 4.5 at the time that I bought it but I was a bit worried with many of the bad reviews. They pointed to things like the carafe leaking, the hot water dispenser side leaking or not functioning properly, bad tasting water, etc. Well, I am happy to report that I haven’t seen any of these problems.

Pros
1) Hot water dispenser heats water to 185 degrees. This is perfect for anything you may want to use it for.
2) The coffee maker side heats the water to about 200 degrees. This is GREAT for making a really good cup of coffee.
3) The coffee temperature lets the coffee too stay warm after I add half & half.
4) The cover on the carafe isn’t hinged which means that it does not flop around when you are pouring and it does not have a flimsy hinge to break.
5) The hot water dispenser side is big, much bigger than it seems in the pictures. That’s why I have uploaded many pictures with mugs sitting on it and my tape measure showing the real size. It fits both large and tall mugs.
6) The auto off setting is adjustable from 1 4 hours. This is great for my mom who loves to brew a pot and drink it all morning.
7) The display lights on the hot water side that allow you to know when the water is prepared and when you have to add water are great.
8) display light allows you to know when it’s time to clean the unit.

Cons
1) I am not really sure how much safer the safety lock is on the hot water side. Anybody that can reach the lever can slide that safety lock to the left.
2) This is a small nitpick but pointing out small things like this show how much I really like this coffee maker. To set the clock you switch the switch to Clock , then hold down the HR button till the time starts blinking. What else am I going to do while I have the switch set to Clock? Why should I hold down that button too? The only reason this really bugs me is because if you hold it down a split second too long it’ll begin to change the hour. If you only wanted to change the minute it may be annoying.
3) This is only a con at 1st. The 1st time you pour water into the coffee side the angle of where you must pour it makes you feel like you are going to spill it. Not to worry though. The design of the carafe and the fact that the flipped up cover will catch the water if you go to far make it really easy. Just do not hesitate and you will find that it’s as easy as pie to pour the water in.

Finally, this thing makes a GREAT TASTING cup of coffee. I can not believe I have a drip coffee maker that I enjoy using. Previous to this any time I wanted a good cup of coffee I could break out my French Press.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I will be happy to check it out and get back to you.

5.0 out of five stars Awesome and Easy!, May 5, 2005
By H. Woolsey (Deep South) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Cuisinart ICE 30BC Pure Indulgence 2 Quart auto Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker (Kitchen) I bought this after much debate about if or not I needed a two quart ice cream maker or just go with the original Cuisinart $49.95 one. I’m so happy i bought this one. It’s so great. Easy to use, makes alot of ice cream,so sleek looking.

I have a tiny kicthen and everytime I turn around I’m purchasing something that will clutter my counterspace, but I have to say this I do not mind. It’s square, not to bulky and the cord fits nicely up inside the machine. It does not dangle or anything. It is right beside my KitchenAid.

I have made two recipes out of the manual that comes with the machine. I typically do not like “manual recipes” but, they are great. The Mango Gelato was a big hit with family and friends. One girl who does not like ice cream, liked it. The simple ice creams that dont require making a custard, you just mix all the ingredients together and freeze, I thinked it could be awful. It was not, so you may be able to make ice cream in 30minutes from start to finish with those recipes.

I do keep the bowl in the freezer like others suggested with the smaller ice cream maker. It was useful to have it already frozen when I’m prepared to make ice cream.

As far as sound, it isn’t as calm as I thought, but do not let that scare you. It is not like turning on a blender and leaving it running for 25 minutes. It is not an annoying sound. Not like the old ice cream makers with the ice and stuff. It’s fun to watch it churn too. So the sound just fades to the background.

It’s interactive and a great thing to do with kids and company.

I really can not say enough good. One of the best appliance investments I have mad still.

2.0 out of five stars Lousy lifespan makes for an unhappy buyer, June 8, 2009
By Anon y moose (Pennsylvania, USA) See all my reviews This review is from: Cuisinart ICE 30BC Pure Indulgence 2 Quart auto Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker (Kitchen) This product started to malfunction a bit more than a year into its life.

At 1st, it made great ice cream. Now, the unit generates so much heat while it’s turning that the bowl unfreezes and I end up with a pultaceous mess that is not remotely close to ice cream.

Avoid this.

UPDATE: Cuisinart replaced my faulty product. For a $10 shipping charge, they shipped a new unit to me the same day I called. It shipped from New Jersey via UPS and I had it two days afterward. They require that you ship the faulty unit to them in New Jersey at your expense, but they’ll ship your substitute without 1st having the faulty unit. My total out of pocket expense was $20. I am happy with the buyer service.

5.0 out of five stars I love this machine!, May 23, 2005
By Carol Brearley “Pixie” (Rochester, NY USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Cuisinart ICE 30BC Pure Indulgence 2 Quart auto Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker (Kitchen) I used this to make a custard established ice cream (recipe below) and it came out WONDERFULLY! The ice cream was done in 20 minutes and the consistency was fluffy. The recipe I made before (non custard) did not thicken as nice, but I believe it was because it wasn’t made with the custard base. I uploaded a buyer image of the maker in action near the end of the cycle.

TIP be sure the bowl is totally frozen and don’t pull it out till you’re prepared to pour the ingredients in.

Custard Base Recipe:

Ingredients for base four egg yolks, one cup milk, 1/2 cup sugar.
For Ice cream base, one cup new heavy cream, two teaspoons vanilla extract.

Directions In a double boiler gradually bring milk to a boil. In a glass bowl mix together egg yolks and sugar till thickened. Gradually pour in the milk stirring constantly. Return to double boiler and gradually heat till thickened. (Mixture will stick to back of the spoon. Don’t BOIL! Remove from heat and let to cool. (I recommend putting it in the freezer for about two hours before using.) When the mixture is cooled mix in the heavy cream and vanilla. As indicated by maker directions, turn on machine and gradually pour mixture in. If you want to add chips, fruit or anything else to the ice cream, do it about five minutes before the end of the cycle. Enjoy!
