Ft Compact Refrigerator (Kitchen) If you have ever tried one of those small thermo electric plate refrigerators (as I have), you may have been disappointed by its cooling capability. Sadly, the technology that lets them to be so small also limitations how cold they get. They can keep things cool, but they do not make things really cold. If you like your milk to remain unspoiled and your drinks to be icy cold, compressor refrigerators are the way to go. This Emerson CR180 compact refrigerator runs on a compressor system.

That said, let us start with what everyone wants to know first: How cold does this unit get?

I’ve had this refrigerator running for a week and they are the temperatures I have measured:

Setting number 6..4

Door……34…43 degrees Fahrenheit
Middle counter..33…42
Freezer….18…26

Setting number six is the coldest. The manufacturer’s guide states that setting number three should suffice for majority of people, but I like things on the colder side, so I keep it between four and 5.

Overall, this refrigerator runs silently. There’s, but, a soft “plink” every couple of minutes as the cooling system kicks in. It is barely obvious with all the sound where I work, but it’s something to think about if you’re planning to use the refrigerator in a calm environment.

The outside dimensions are 18 inches high x 18.5 inches large x 20 inches deep. It fits nicely under my desk, and in spite of the manufacturer’s warning not to put heavy objects on top, I do sometimes use it as a footrest.

The freezer holds one frozen dinner (maybe two if you remove the cardboard boxes and just slide the plastic wrapped meal trays in). The picture above where they have filled the refrigerator full is a little misleading in that they have put food on the center counter directly below the freezer, which is where the drip tray goes. As well, the door takes up more space than you may think. In spite of this, it is pretty roomy. For me, there is more than enough room to keep a couple of sandwiches, some bottles of juice and soda, a frozen dinner, and many salad fixings for the week.

If you plan to buy this refrigerator online, make sure to ask the seller 1st how they are going to pack it. The manufacturer’s retail box is certainly not enough for shipping. There’s only a thin (1/2 inch) level of styrofoam on the top and bottom, and none at all on the sides. Most importantly, there’s no protection whatsoever for the most fragile part of the refrigerator.The exposed coolant system in back. With the way most shipping services throw their packages around, chances are good that the refrigerator will be dented, and maybe inoperable, on arrival. Make sure to ask the seller if they will double box it with proper packing materials.

A not many other notes:

Defrosting is manual, not auto.

The door is reversible, so you may be able to make it swing whichever direction you want.

There is no lock and no handle, just a recessed door top (I personally favor this, as it is one less mechanical part to break with expanded use).

The U.S. Government energy guide rated this refrigerator at an approximated yearly electricity use of 315 kWh, with an approximated yearly operating cost of 33.50 dollars.

Ft Compact Refrigerator (Kitchen) there is already a solidly detailed review on the product, so I will not make this long just want to add a short note. When I decided to purchase a compact refrigerator for my bedroom, I projected it could take me 20 minutes to read some reviews and get one on order. I was wrong. The handling damage stated by customers bespeaks a awful track record, so I continued to search and discovered a department store website that could help me track down this model to a local store. I picked it up last week. The unit on the counter looked badly mauled. The unit was still in its container and I would not purchase that unit without having it unpacked at the store. They happened to have another unit in stock and brought it forward. With the packing in good condition I brought it home and plugged it in.
It’s delightful calm, cold, and the estimated yearly cost, based on your utility rates, is just $36 per year.
